My 7 year old is not a baseball superstar. I purchased this pitching machine because I am not a superstar pitcher so the combination of our skills was borderline pathetic. I wanted to get him something that would allow him to at least practice with some degree of regularity/normality as far as speed/aim/etc. went so he could feel more confident. This pitching machine does just that. I was worried at first that it would throw too fast but as soon as I turned it on my fears quickly went away. He did not flinch when the ball came at him (which can happen if something is flying at his head too fast for comfort)and the ball ended up roughly in the same spot each time… once I figured out the trick. The pitching machine needs to be set up on a flat hard surface. At first on my crazy uneven gopher-ridden grass the “kick back” from the machine would cause the ball to fly anywhere within a five foot radius (up/down/left/right) but on flat cement it was a straight shot every time.

Several pieces of advice before purchase:

    1. While I am not an expert at speeds… in fact I would be hard pressed to even guess the speed of this machine… I feel that it is not quite “Up to 45 MPH.”

    2. Be careful when positioning the legs. I lost a chuck of flesh on my hand when I stupidly didn’t pay attention, pulled the legs out quickly and my hand became pinched between the mount and the legs. I have a nice little scar that will probably disappear in a couple months. No biggie and I don’t blame the product for this… but something to keep in mind when you or your child is setting this up. (Speaking of setting this up, it took less than a minute to put this together and it folds up nicely in my Suncast DB8000B Deck Box with Wheels with all of our other sports gear.)

    3. It needs to be plugged in and has a fairly short cord. Our local park does not have an outlet but I am lucky enough to have a backyard as large as a park so this does not bother our family. We do have to use an extension cord as the ideal location is more than 6-10 feet away from the nearest outlet.

    4. I wish I would have purchased this product sooner. I honestly think if I would have purchased this the first year he was in CAPs it would have made a huge difference in his abilities.

I purchased this for my 10 year old son. He refuses to use it as sometimes the pitch is perfect then other times it is right at his head. The balls will hurt if you get hit by them. We used this only once and did try to adjust it many times. Even when the pitch wasn’t coming right at him, many were just too bad to hit. Save yourself $100. plus another $20 for extra balls.

I was very satisfied with this pitching machine. It was perfect for my son. It is adjustable and that was a great feature. The only draw back is It only has one speed. Wonderful product for the price though.

It was throwning some wild pitches and mixing in a few good ones. Then I mounted it to a approx. 2ft by 2ft piece of plywood. It works much better now but it still throws some wild. The machine is light (maybe about 10 pounds) so the force from the throw kicks back moving the machine. Maybe by anchoring some weight to it would better. We used it about a hour and 1/2 hour straight with the other kids in the neighborhood with no problems. We have used it 3 times now and I have seen an improvement in my son’s level and confidence. Only comes with 3 balls so check into getting more.

I purchased this for my 7 year old this christmas. We could not get 2 consecutive pitches to come out the same way. After engaging in a small engineering project to level out the machine on a plywood base; anchoring the legs etc. I had to pack it up and return it. It is unusable – I am very surprised that it performed so badly for a commercial product. What was the design/testing criteria ?
