Zooka Pitching Machines

Zooka Pitching MachineThe Zooka pitching machine offers superb performance and incredible vale for money. This baseball pitching machine is battery operated and weight in at just 30 pounds is very portable. It’s ideal for putting in the truck and taking to the local park or pitching fields. When it’s full charged this pitching machine will throw around 500 pitches at up to 65mph. It uses pretty much any 9 inch ball and is great for both infield and outfield drills.

Because the Zooka pitching machine is light, portable and quick to set up it will be used a lot. This translates in to more practise for you and your kids which will see a dramatic improvement in their hitting and fielding ability. This ease of use and quick set up is a key feature for many of the owners of this baseball pitching machine.

This pitching machine is good for shooting pop ups too and you’ll be amazed when you see it shoot one at full power. This feature will really help you and your kids improve your fielding ability and catch the ball. The pop ups go a lot higher than a kid can hit them and is on a par for height with a pro player.

Some people do complain that the ZOoka isn’t very accurate but if you read the manual you will find the settings you need to have to make it accurate.

For the most accurate pitching you need to use dimpled balls. If you use balls of the same color and density then you will get the most consistent results. Using seamed leather balls will throw off the accuracy but will simulate real pitching much more. The stiches create more variation in the pitching and will test your skills more.

Being able to vary both the speeds and the mix of pitches means that you can get some excellent batting practise from it which will see a real improvement when playing the game.

Another great thing is that the Zooka pitching machine can throw real baseballs as well as most other machine balls. It has a compressor on the inside of the machine that pumps up to the right level based on the speed of the pitch you select, and releases the pressure to propel the ball out of the scoop to the plate. Pitch speed is controlled by a small computer on the back of the machine. It even requires the entry of a password before it can be operated.

There are two models of Zooka pitching machines: the ZS720 and ZS740. The 720 is recommended for children ages of only 5 to 11, while the 740 is more suitable up to the age of 18 and above.

The 720 will only throw fastballs up to 50 mph, and has a maximum throwing distance of 130 ft. The 740 will throw up to 70 mph, with a maximum throwing distance of 200 ft. The 740 also has a feature that allows the user to program changeups to be thrown to the hitter. This is always a nice feature to help hitters improve their timing and simulate a game-like at bat. An automatic feeder is also available for this pitching machine.

All in all this is an excellent baseball pitching machine that is high quality, backed by great customer service and will last for years.

Some quotes from satisfied users include:

“This machine is so portable and easy to set up that we use it three to four times a week at the local ball park. It throws pitches are that plenty fast enough to challenge any batter up to an through middle school. My machine will shoot the ball at speeds up to 72 MPH consistently.”

“Our Zooka stands out in my mind as one of the best values for the money of ALL the purchases I’ve made in the last twenty years. “

“This is probably the Rolls Royce of portable pitching machines. It’s easy to use (for the dad’s or the coach’s benefit), it can pitch either the rubber ball that come with it or real baseballs, even badly scuffed ones. It can’t deliver a fastball over 65mph, but with real baseballs it comes close to simulating a knuckle ball. It’s sturdy and durable.”

“With the right swing mechanics and repetition, my son has gone from being a so-so hitter to one of the best in the league. He has also improved his power dramatically and can easily hit a home run in his league (fences are at 160 feet). He is currently 9 years old and is average size.”

My son got his while he was in Little League – a city all-star, by the way, chiefly for his defensive play. He used it for three seasons, in the third season mostly for firing pop-ups and high line drives to be tracked down. He kept it in clean condition. Now that he’s graduating from high school, he decided to sell it on e-Bay; he got an immediate response and sold it for a bit over half what we paid for it in 2002. Not a bad re-sale value.

There’s no such thing as equality in sports. Playing opportunities favor some kids over others. Boys whose fathers were athletes have the advantage in every way, both coaching and heredity. Some towns and some school have decent fields and classy batting cages. And some families can afford summer camps, private lessons, top-quality gloves, and zookas. After years of volunteer coaching and grounds-keeping, I wish the playing fields could be leveler. If you buy this machine to give your kid that ‘competitive edge,’ do society a favor and teach him to share it as much as possible with less privileged peers.

For youth baseball, this machine is fantastic. I bought this machine a year ago to help my son and his buddy, both 8 years old at the time, improve their hitting. They had just started playing at the kids pitch level (as opposed to coach pitch) and were having trouble adjusting to the new regimen.

This machine is so portable and easy to set up that we use it three to four times a week at the local ball park. It throws ptiches are that plenty fast enough to challenge any batter up to an through middle school. My machine will shoot the ball at speeds up to 72 MPH consistently.

We also use the machine to shoot pop ups. when people see the machine shoot a pop up at full power, they are always amazed. At first, my son coulnd’t catch a full power pop up to save his life, but with lots of practice, he can consistently catch them today. By the way, they go higher than any kid could ever hit one. I’ve only seen pros hit pop ups like these.

The best thing about this machine is that it is light, portable and quick to set up. this translates to frequent use and that is what will improve your kids hitting and fielding ability. I considered many other machines but decided to buy this one because I knew that ease of set up and use were the key to frequent use.

I keep my machine in my van charging off an inverter, so it is ready at anytime for use.

Review by B. MOORE for Heater Combo Pitching Machine

I purchased the Heater Combo Pitching Machine and an Xtender 30ft Batting Cage from Hookem Sports. I could not be happier! I was looking to put in a batting cage in our backyard for my daughters (4,8,9) to grow up with as they advanced through the levels of fast pitch softball. I chose the Combo so we could start with 11″ softballs and move up to 12″ as the girls got bigger.

The cage was a little tricky to set up by myself…I’m sure it would have been A LOT easier if I had an extra set of hands to help when installing the netting. But, nonetheless, I was able to get it done by myself, which is saying something as to the ease of setup!

The machine was very easy to get set up, and pitches unbelievably accurately! The whole package is perfect to help build their confidence and to improve their hitting ability. My 9 year old can’t stay out of it! They all love it. It will even pitch wiffle balls to my 4 year old!

The machine is basic to use, and feels very safe. Speed adjustment is easy, and it’s plenty fast! The speed dial goes to 10…at the 30 ft distance, around level 5 is perfect for my 9 year old. Level 4 is good for the 8 yr old. I fired a few balls through at levels 8,9, and 10…and I think I would have had a tough time hitting the higher levels at that distance. I know this machine and cage will really benefit the girls as they get older, making them quicker and quicker with their bat.

I only hope the machine and cage will last. But even if I have to replace one or both of them after a few years…it’s still a bargain compared to what other backyard batting cage setups cost.

Curtis from Hookem Sports was very helpful. He answered several email questions from me quickly and accurately. Plus I feel he gave me a great price that included free shipping (available from most retailers on the Heater), but also a couple dozen Heater dimple balls that really do pitch amazingly straight!
